Ok, I've finally got around to enabling SSL site-wide on an opt-in basis.

SSL encrypts all data sent between your browser and this server thus preventing people or systems from eavesdropping on your traffic as it traverses the many systems in between. I strongly recommend you enable it.

To do so, just click the "Secure" link under the site logo up the top of the page. The site will then flick you over to the SSL channel for the entirety of your session. It won't at this point remember your choice across visits, so the best thing to do would be to change your bookmarks to have the "https://" prefix instead of "http://".

If in doubt, there are then three way to check at any time as to whether you're on the secure link or not, anyone one of which will do:

1. Check that the URL in your browser starts with the "https://",
2. Check that there's a padlock in your browser's status bar, or
3. Check the "Secure" link under the site logo - if your session isn't going through SSL, the link will display thus giving you the option to select it and go secure. Once you're on SSL, the link will go away as you're already sorted.

A big thank you at this point to the Supporters - it's your cash that was used to purchase the SSL certificate.

Must have automatically done it for me. Just a question, is there any way to get rid of the security ceritificate pop up? Its the one that says something like "Do you want to only view the website data that was delivered securely". Its just a pain doing it on every page, and at home I'm happy to view all data

Cheers

Looks like the brainiacs at gostats.com (a 3rd party which we use for some things) forgot to renew their SSL certs. Give it a bit more time - they should realise their error and make it go away.

As we all know, currently there is the link to cross over to SSL encryption but... is it possible for this to be implemented as soon as you log-in (automatically)?

Cheers.

Does SSL not work with the phone theme? If I switch to secure before logging in I still get prompted when posting or anything else that drops the phone theme.

Yep have now forced the whole site into SSL mode. I held off on doing this as there are some antique browsers which can't handle it, but ah f*ck 'em.. :)

Yeah it does and as just mentioned above you should now be in SSL mode the whole time and thus never see that "switch over to SSL" prompt again.

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
