I went over and logged in for my weekly checkin to firesupportbase.com today and was saddened to hear that the founder and "Site Admin" over there, the good Mr S., had passed away after a long battle with illness.

I had several discussions by way of introduction, with him back in 2008. The first few were over email and the last was over the phone. I'll admit that I was surprised when he called me up on the mobile, and, eschewing any notion of inter-site pissing contests, effortlessly redirected the discussion into a light-hearted yet technically enlightening (and amusing) discourse around the provision of military discussion forums and the ways and means thereof, followed by a gratuitous and chucklesome revision of the interface between the man on the ground and the Shiny Bums, the roles of social media therein, and why the heck we can't all just get along.


Digger, Copper, Bushman Par-Excellance. You shall be missed.

I never got to meet him in person, but I consider him my friend.

I can't even begin to tell those of you who hadn't the pleasure of meeting or conversing with him, how strong his character is.

A man of many faults, and of amazing strengths.

I'm glad to count him, and have him count me, as a mate.

I spoke with him on the phone a few hours before his passing. He was still having a crack, and willing to spit in the Devil's eye.

We are diminshed, Old Roman. Vale my friend.

Thanks for posting this mate, I didn't want to step on any toes. And I also would like to keep the olive branch between both forums extended.

I didn't know him personally but knew he was highly regarded.

I had exchanged emails with him on various matters and he took the time to respond, pure trivia now, when one thinks of the hurdles he was facing in regards to his health.
