Hi, I'm StrafeBink - previously enlisted as a choc grunt (albeit only completing Kapooka and CAM course before life got in the way). Currently waiting to go back to Kapooka after 9 years with the intent to complete all the Infantry courses this time round.

Now, the point of my post.

As a current serving full-time member of the Australian military or an active reservist... What would you like to see from a large mining company to sweeten the deal in attracting ex-military and current reservists to work for them? I have been asked by HR to find out what we could offer to increase our veteran employment rate.

So far I have put forward.

1) Separate recruitment portal for ex-military (similar to what Schlumberger does) and prioritising roles and traineeships for ex-military.

2) Defence leave policy to allow more paid leave days for reservists etc.

What else would make the transition easier? Are information days that provide more information about entry-level roles and progression in the industry worth it? Or do most trying to get into mining already do their own due diligence?
