Stop it, you'll make my tum-tum hurt from laughing too much.

"Cool guy persona"?? Sorry sunshine, I'm secure enough within myself to not need pumping up on some bloody internet forum.
I already have very good people in real life know how cool (or not) I am. I don't need validation from random kids/people off the net when I already have industry professionals know my character.

My thought processes, mindset and personal belief system have been demonstrated in this loc, and others on the interwebs.

You have expressed your opinion in a discussion - that is good.
You have had your opinion further discussed by others, taking it badly - that is not good.
You claim to have the only grasp on common sense and reality - that is verging on arrogance.

Your lack of military experience is not the issue per se. Your lack of military experience which precludes you from making an educated expression of opinion yet you still wish to gob off is an issue.

For your information lad, traditional military recruit training is intended to bring out the aggressive side of a recruits personality. There's a lot of "in your face" personal confrontation, and breaking down of bad habits infused from a life of often soft civilian living. It is natural for people who have never experienced real imposed discipline to get really aggressive. That after all, is the point.

It's entirely natural for some types to wish their instructors dead, as the breaking down process can be traumatic to their personality.

A good recruit instructor is WELL AWARE of this, and never lets their guard down around his young striplings. The kids can have that opinion, but they must not be allowed to move further on this thought process. It is my personal opinion that softening the approach of recruit training is not helping the transition of civilians into effective diggers.

The original OP has made a mistake in his life, he’s at least trying to make amends in his life. Will he be successful?? I honestly don’t know, but he’s at least showing he has a mindset and attitude change.

You however, continue to show your character. Continue on please, the ADF is a small world, and I hope karma catches up with you.

Well said 22F, as usual, but I think it may be a case of the above with this one.

I think thats great, atleast you don't take this stuff to seriously, although half of this board feels the need to get personal in their replies.

I agree with all of those points too, but their is a fine line between controlled aggression and asking another recruit with sergeant they would shoot. It's just like any pt you go as hard as can, get worked up, throw elbows, hit hard etc but you don't need to take it further. If you have a problem with someone whoever it may be don't sit around in the shadows plotting your revenge take action and approach the person or seek help through the available channels.

I have enough self control to let things slide. I am sure the ADF is a small world and if I have a target on back, I am sure I will deal with it.

Oh for f***'s sake! The original poster was asking for some advice about his situation. He attempted to make a joke at recruit training that went horribly wrong. End of story. f*** me! Some people take things too seriously :smt011 . He got the advice he was after, so why are people still bickering? leon, stop being a nit picker, let it go.

You know I can I have the English skills of a small child relate to Golfpunks story... Accept instead of making an off coloured joke about which of the NCO's I would shoot, I instead lost at one of them and had a little hissy-fit (Little may be an understatement)

And In my opinion I reckon that given the time that has elapsed between when the event occured and now and the effort he has put in to making his way back into the ADF I think that he entirely deserves another shot (Keeping in mind that recruitment is competitive). Alot of maturity can be gained in that length of time, and with maturity comes common sense.

Its very easy to claim that you would never do that and that you would have more common sense etc.... But its one of those things where unless you were there and were experiencing the same things you really can't claim that.

So to Golfpunk I say goodluck, I really hope this works out for you.. (also if they come back with a no will never accept you, and your still keen afterwards you could try the UK)

Anyways Golfpunk Ill be very interested to here how this turns out for you. Keep us all posted :)

Did anybody else get weirded out by the title of this thread? My struggle translates to Mein Kampf which is a book Hitler wrote whilst in prison for treason.

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
