Why were you not sure? You want to do a combat job but you're not sure about the only job in the ADF that will give you an opportunity for combat?

edit: also i didn't know that BM's don't get to board hostile ships, is there a reason for this?

Because their prime job is chipping and painting, if you want to do a combat job, go Infantry, get fit and good at your job, attempt selection for SASR or 4RAR.

Sound advice.
Or, you could go for Clearance Diver. That has a bit more combat involved, plus the pay is better than most Navy jobs.

Ok, I'll rephrase it.

POTENTIALLY more combat could be involved. No guarantee's though.
If you got chosen for the counter-terroism unit (TAG?) that COULD warrant more action.
All I'm saying is that if action was ever to arise at sea CD's could see a bit.[/b]

I was under the impression that a CD's role is exactly that, diving and clearing explosive devices. The NAvy site doesnt mention anything about any combat ops or ship boardings.

You get attached to Tactical Assault Group East.

The main role of a Clearance Diver is to conduct scrubbing the buttocks of ships. If you want to get all kinky then they are capable of disarming Improvised Explosive Devices and Explosive Ordinance.

Clearance Divers teach the Demolitions course at Holsworthy.

If you think Maritime Tactical Operations is combat, think again.

Clearance Divers are no better at combat than Clerks in the Army.

I'm sure as shit I'll get some Diver telling me otherwise, my reply for that is.

Alright I stand corrected. My apologies.

The question is mate, have they been used?

That photo was taken in 2003 during the Deployment of Clearance Divers in Iraq. The rest of the photos can be found Here.

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
