I have heard mixed stories about the difficulty of the maths component. I have heard it isn't anything like the sample and is more like a first year university test similar to this:

http://www.gsu.edu/images/Incept/mathpractice.pdf

Any input? Because if it is similar to this I am to have hit the books because it has been over 10 years since I touched this stuff and don't know if it possible to go over it all in the time before my YOU session.

I am going for RAAF CISCON or ARMY information systems technician.

If I don't do well on the maths component. Will my IT degree and numerous industry certifications cover me?

The maths test has no direct bearing on those two jobs. It is predominantly for the trade roles.

No need for advanced maths in the Royal Australian Engineers. 10 shovels full of sand to fill the sand bag, 10 swings of the spanner to tighten the bridge bolt, 10 hits with the hammer to break the thing that needs breaking, 10 band aids for the 10 sores on the knuckles from where they've been dragging on the ground.

So you don't even need to count above 10 as an engineer?

No, but you need a ball sack that would hold 10 eggs in order to have the stones to do some of the shit they do.

So I did the test today, I had done a bit of practice at home reading up on what questions I might get.
So I open the test an look at question 1 and absolutely hit a brick wall it confused the hell out of me but as people have said just moved on and do what you can then when you go back at look at the ones you miss more often then not you will see what the pattern/problem is.

The one thing that I didn't ask at the start of the test was if you just guessed do you get a lower results for wrong answers? I asked after I had done the test and the lady said she could not answer the question at it was policy. Anyone know the answer to that?

Better to answer two thirds mostly correctly than answer all of them and get half wrong.

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
