Attention:

Due to lack of ongoing funding, this site will soon be undergoing some major maintenance in order to make it more manageable from a cost perspective. This could see it off the air for a number of days and you may see patchy and/or degraded performance and availability while the new solution beds in. Worst case is that it goes away for some time and a project is then undertaken to at least have a minimal performance read-only archival copy available. Rest assured the full backups are kept and stored in a highly secure location ready for resurrection when the time comes. Meantime the Alamo is here: https://www.facebook.com/ausmilitary/

Hi there, this site has been the most extensive and helpful website for everything ADF related. Is it possible that the software could be updated to something new? I am more than happy to help provide a server cloud to host the website, provide the new software, help administrate or whatever to keep this forum online.

If there's anything we can do as a community let us know.

Cheers

Hi team,

Might I suggest that the British ARRSE site/forum is a long-standing and very active example of means by which you may be able to keep this place going?

Whilst it might be argued that the user base is larger (purely by virtue of the British Army being a larger beast), it's also true that ARRSE actually attracts a lot of users who have never served in the Armed Forces.

It might be worth speaking to the COs across there.

I have found a lot of value in this forum, but there's no arguing that it doesn't attract as much foot traffic.

I mentioned this to you in the PM, but building a forum membership in a social media world is something a lot of forums are struggling with these days. ARRSE have the benefit of having been around for a long time, with a big membership, which keeps the conversation going.
We've always had that transitory membership, recruits looking for info, then ultimately either letting go or achieving the dream and not returning. Add a couple of years of reduced recruiting for the sorts of roles that traditionally drove a lot of the traffic here and we've gone through a bit of a quiet patch.

I have noticed the steady decline in regular posting older members, but also people coming here to ask.

Has DFR upped their game supplying people with more info?

They do quite a lot of live Q&A session on stalk book. They're worth a look if you like to raise your BP occasionally.
Recruit hardly any grunts, tankies, gunners and ginger beers for a year or so and the place will dry up too.

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
