Hey guys i have some questions about RASIGS. It's nothing really related to SF stuff but i was hoping you could help me anyway, i did a search of this site and could find anythign to help answer my question so anyway. Come June i leave for Kapooka with my first prefernce of ECN266 Operator Communications, or Communications Operator or Operator Specialist Communications, three different army sites have it listed under either name, first off, what is the right name?? Okay anyway i have found pleanty on here on what its like being a rifleman, but what can i expect from IET training at the signals school and after that, can anyone give me any insight into what it will be like on the job. I think i have read every piece of information on this on every army realted web site but nothing really sates my curiosity. Any information no matter how small or unimportant would be great, thanks guys!

Yeah thats what it's labled as on my enlistment papers, but seeing it written differently on government army websites (see: stay army section of army.gov.au) made me wonder if it was termed differently in service.

Just wondering what type of info Tech jobs are available in the Military. I went Defencejobs, the only jobs they had in this section were jobs which basically required 10 and even some up to year 11/12.
The reason i ask this was i was talking to a Military guy i meet the other day and he hinted to look into it.
Well, this is me looking it. all the jobs there don't require to much education, I'm currently doing a diploma in IT.
Are there Higher jobs I can go into having this higher education?

Sig corps jobs is probably where you want to look, geek or OP EW, maybe int, General Entry Officer for sigs, but maybe if you want a propper IT job you might want to look in civvy street, try the Army if you want to be a warrior....

The other thing is don't be put off by the entry requirments, there aren't many defence jobs that require a diploma, thats why we conduct job specific training.

mate try Operator Command Support Systems in Sigs, defence jobs lists their job description as

"An Operator Command Support Systems is a soldier who installs, configures and maintains Deployable Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN). They are a member of an Information System (IS) Detachment employed within a Communications Node. The tasks Operator Command Support Systems perform include implementing, analysing, and rectification of software, hardware and network technology solutions. They are also responsible for ensuring that Information Technology (IT) security is maintained and enforced throughout the Communications Node."

sounds as close to IT as you're going to get.

Hello,

I've recently had my joes day and I've applied for a communications operator, this means I will be in Simpson Barracks Macleod, VICTORIA.

I have questions in that, once you move there do they have an internet connection or are you able to hook up an internet connection? Also are the rooms big enough for a new computer ect?

I'm a bit of a geek at heart and I really enjoy a game of world of warcraft, i was hopeing they had a connection or a cable line or something that you can hook an internet connection up to.

If anyone could provite anymore information on what im to expect on liveing conditions ect that would be great.

thanks

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
