Do units like 1 Cdo have medics that they train up who will be used in direct action missions or recon missions? Or do they just sit back and wait to be called to where the problems are? How many medics does 1 Cdo have? What does it take to become a medic, i.e. what selection process do they have and what training do u get?

Thanks

yeah mate they got combat medics. To become a commando 1 of the courses you have to do is either combat medic, demolitionist or signals operator. But i think its only a two week course. every raid troop will have a medic

Yeah, I'm interested in being a medic in SF too. What is there training like compared to a medical asistant in an Infantry unit?

Well not to shore about that but I got a brother who is a medic. His course was nine months. He can then be attached to a Infantry battalion And work at the RAP or with platoon hq. He can the go onto do his advanced medics course but he`s doing the physical training instructer course instead.

Just saw in the Inf mag that there are two catogories of candidates in the CTC with Cat A's being Infantry types who will be employed as Commando's and Cat B's whose primary employment in the unit would be as a sig or medic. I don't know if there is any difference in the training they recieve but cat A's need to have done the rifleman IET first.

What mag is it, and where can you get it from. I've been looking for this type of info for about a yr. Could you possibly post the article up here some how?

Cheers.

That's how it works with in-service applicants also. Cat A's switch ECN totally to Cdo or SASR, while Cat B's go with the dual ECN and work primarily as their other trade.

The Australian Infantry Magazine, availabe at all good news agents and some crap ones too. Back orders through the Royal Australian Infantry Corps Shop Military Post Office Singleton NSW 2331, phone or fax 02 6570 3427. Oct 2002 through to oct 2004 $3.00 each (it comes out twice a year) $2.40 postage per mag.

I reckon you would still be a medic as your main job and like an Infantry med assist you would probably hang out with the command group untill the shit hits the fan.

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
