I got my letter saying I was medically unsuitable due to having Factor V Leiden. Was wondering if anyone had appealed this before and what the details were / outcome was?

So you have a genetic disorder that increases your risk of blood clots (for those playing at home).

Defence doesn't want to accept that risk. I'm not sure how you'd go about appealing the decision. Maybe get a second opinion and confirm the diagnosis? Would be a start.

That's not good for a predominantly outdoor based, rough and tumble lifestyle with low medical support.

What would you appeal? If you have an injury, you can appeal that you have rehabilitated it, I'm assuming the only way you can mitigate your condition is with medication, which makes you non employable in the ADF.

There is no day to day drug requirement which works in your favour. Just need to be careful in any situation that risks clotting. Long flights etc.
