Have you got your certs through the Department of Defence Nationally Recognised Qualifications website? Even as an Infantry Sgt you would have some great sought after skills/qualifications thar can be maped over to civvie qualifications, Ie Training&Assessment, OH&S etc. There are some good organisations out there like Transciv that can help you out as well.

But like Dig said mates etc are the way forward in getting work.

Good Luck!

I had a thought here also. I've spoken to these guys a bit a while ago. They have advertised for field assistants to assist geologists out in the field on drill rigs and the like. Probably not the most stimulating, but its generally low stress (for the fieldy!) and block work. The actual work is nothing too technical, so you wouldn't have any trouble picking that up. It could also lead to contacts with the drillers so you could offside there and maybe get a start in the mines if that is your cup of tea.

They are really easy people to deal with, and seem really genuinely keen to help people out. I know someone else who speaks very highly of these guys. Not many listed now, but it might be worth contacting to get your foot in if this will work for you and the family

You could also approach some other companies in regards to field assistant work. Geological solutions is one I have in mind who are Brisbane based (the work is east coast wide). Just another lead that hopefully can help.

Hi, I have just recently left the Army after 14 years in March and have not been successful getting a job on the outside for three months now.

At this stage, I have just started selling my assets eg. House, cars etc., so I can support my family because I can't receive centre link payments until I am totally broke.

For the last 14 years in the army I have been an Infantry soldier and have been on number of training exercises and deployments overseas in a combat role in that time. My rank was SGT before I left and because of my rank I have qualifications in man management, training and assessment and security operations. I am also a qualified wood machinist by trade before enlisting in the ADF.

I have been applying for traineeships, apprentice jobs within the mines, as well as security jobs across the country with no success.

I am currently located in Brisbane and quite happy to relocate anywhere in Australia, even overseas to secure work if required.

I thank you for taking the time to read this and it is greatly appreciated on any feedback regarding my situation.

Matt.

Why not try out as a Correctional Officer? Prisons are something we'll always need and business is a boomin'. I work at Port Phillip down in Victoria and its an interesting job, that's for sure. Not as action-packed as Infantry I would assume, but you'll never have a boring day. Someone with your people management skills who is also ex-Defence Force would be a valued asset to any prison. Should look into it bud.
