WilliamWallace,

All the info is here http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/army/jobs ... obDetails/

These are also answers that DFR can easily answer.

Lastly, why would the army get rid of you after one year due to lack of positions? You're in the position. If you stay, its money they don't have to waste on training someone new.

This is all common sense and I seriously recommend you do some more research.

As long as you're competent, fit and healthy you can serve on until retirement, there is no more signing on for a year or six years or what ever, it's an open ended contract. If you sign up for a bonus, or another trade that attracts a return of service obligation, you will have to stay around for that new deal, but you will deal with that as you come across them.

Ok,

on the DFR site it clearly states "Subsequent periods of service may be offered subject to the requirements of the ADF and your suitability for further service".

Now the suitability bit is obvious, but the requirements of the ADF?

It also makes no mention of the IPMS after the 12 months is up and you continue.

So the two questions I have asked are not answered on the DFR site and I fail to see how it can be answered by "common sense".

As for doing more research, isn't that what I am doing here? Seeking clarification on the above points.

But are the 1 year roles open ended contracts?

I don't know. They could be 12 months and then you need to sign onto an open ended contract.

If they are open ended then no dramas, sign up and all it is is a 12 month IMPS. You just keep serving as long as you like. If it is a set 12 month contract you are up with some doubt in regards to extensions.

Pretty sure they are opened ended and are basically just a 1 year IMPS with sexy marketing.

"Subsequent periods of service may be offered subject to the requirements of the ADF and your suitability for further service"

Just like any job, if they close a base or they find they don't need as many workers they make cuts. So if such a situation occurs, you may be out of a job at the end of the 12 months. (This part is the common sense)

As you can see, the answers you have gotten aren't definite. If you called DFR they may have been able to answer this question much better for you. The contract you are given at the end of your service is most likely up to the job. I'll state it again, call DFR on 13 19 01.

Oh, and look at this. I typed "12 moth roles army" into Google and was linked to this page.

http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/army/oneyearroles/

Which states the following

"After your one year commitment, you can choose to continue your career in the Army or use the valuable skills you have learnt to secure a civilian job. Your role may accredit you with a recognised certificate, so you'll never feel locked into your Army position."

Feel free to keep being a smart arse though.

EDIT:

http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/army/life ... rvice.aspx

This clearly states that at the end of your IMPS, you are free to leave or stay as long as you give the proper amount of notice.

AusMilitary.com is Australia's leading military discussion forum. Originally formed back in 2004 as AusSpecialForces.com as a forum for, by, and about the Australian Special Forces, the forum has since widened it's scope to include all members and branches of the ADF as well as our honoured guests and allies from overseas. Despite some sections being open to the public, the forum still enjoys the membership and advice of respected members of the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces both local and international, as well as those from elite specialities in the conventional forces. From recruit training right up to SF selection tips - if it's frank and honest advice you're after, you'll find it here.
